Adani Group was incepted in 1988 with a vision of striving towards building a better India. Over the last 25 years, the Chairman and Founder of this leading multinational conglomerate has merged an integrated value chain and proved himself unparalleled around the globe. Mr. Gautam Shantilal Adani is a business player living around ventures including coal mining, multi-modal logistics, power generation, edible oil and transmission and others.
He belongs to a Gujarati family and joined his father’s textile business in Ahmedabad after studies, but soon after made a move to Mahindra Brothers as a diamond sorter for two years. At 20, he built up his own diamond brokerage firm in Mumbai and within a year’s time, pulled in his first million.
Maneesh Media had a conversation with this noble personality to feature him in its coffee table book Jewels of Gujarat – Leading Global Gujarati Personalities: Volume I and the believer of achieving big poured his heart out. We still feel ourselves in luck to assemble his inspiring tale in a few flicks of pages.
Mr. Adani believes the entire nation requires excellent infrastructure facilities and hence, he picked ports, power plants, transmission lines and mining as the evident choices to be included in the group. He is driven by the core belief that the pursuit of creating the value of the stakeholder and the contribution to enhance the social capital are the parameters needed to be achieved simultaneously.
Adani has a successful mark in India, owing to his ability to customise business plans to the political economy. Though he kept himself away from Public Private Partnership (PPP) ventures, his focus has been on improving the infrastructure. His strategic planning helped his group to expand. Mr. Adani had also made it to the headlines for clinching Rs. 2000-crore deal with an Australian company in buying country’s single largest coal tenement.
Turning the picture towards his family, the leading first generation Indian entrepreneur is married to Mrs. Priti Adani, who is a dentist by profession and a Managing Trustee of the Adani Group. The couple has two sons, Karan and Jeet.
