Living Life in Symphony of Success and Service

The ‘Narendra’ Factor: “Dedicate yourself to the process; the results will follow.”

THE MAN

Who could have imagined that a student who barely cleared his graduation would defy the odds to make a name for himself and make his nation proud on the international shores?

But Narendra Jain proved what the Indian spirit can achieve, not only for itself but also for the adopted homeland, the UAE, which offered him opportunities to progress and become successful.

Born to Lakhamsey and Sarla Jain on February 8, 1953, Narendra was brought up in an environment that taught him to live on his own terms and never compromise with his virtues and values, no matter what circumstances he gets stuck in.

Narendra inherited the sense of business from his father, and spiritual inclination from his mother. He remembers his father saying, “It’s easy to gain through connections, but the real challenge lies in building a name for yourself purely on your merit.”

Narendra has worked his way to success, knowing that if he wanted to build something, he shouldn’t expect anything to come easy to him. The lessons prepared him for the worst and inspired him to achieve the best, and most importantly to enjoy life to its fullest.

THE JOURNEY

In 1969, He moved to Bombay (Mumbai) to stay with his uncle, who lived in a small ‘chawl’. His academic scores did not help with job opportunities. But where others saw impossible, he saw solutions. Confident that he had the required skills, he applied for a chief accountant’s profile right after graduation. The employers were taken aback at this young man’s confidence, who convincingly proclaimed, “I can do it better than anyone else.” They gave him a chance, and within three months, he proved that his confidence was not unfounded.

When offered the manager’s position in the same organisation, he switched and joined another company as a tax accountant in 1975. Based on his performance, he was given an opportunity in the company’s Dubai branch, which he agreed to take in 1976. However, he chose termination when the organisation wasn’t doing well, to start his own consultancy. Eight months into his business, Frank’s International offered him a finance manager’s position, which he accepted, as the only Indian back then. He rose to the position of Group Vice-President, before retiring in 2015. He continues to manage business and has led it to success, taking it to a publicly listed company in the US.

THE SPIRIT WITHIN

For Jain, it has never been about the money as much as it has been about achieving the goal set. Even his spiritual centre has been guided by his father’s wise words that life’s true treasures lie beyond material wealth and the age-old philosophy of giving that says, “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”

He has been a silent contributor to several causes and is an active community cheerleader, having founded the Jain Social Group in Dubai, taking on the roles of Founder Secretary and later President. This group was dedicated to social activities, also providing tangible support -from helping people find jobs to offering counselling for marital and family issues. As he humbly puts it, his goal is to “bring a smile on somebody’s face. I don’t think anything better than that anybody can do in a day.”

He has played a pivotal role in uniting the four major Jain communities in Dubai and became the first Founder President of the UAE Jain Sangh. Under his stewardship, the Sangh grew from 750 members to a robust community of over 4,000, creating a lasting spiritual home for Jains in the region. Jain continues to be involved in social projects in his homeland as well.

His generosity and spirit of service has no limits. Even in philanthropy, he brings his ‘can do’ approach. “Whenever anybody calls me for a genuine social cause, I am always there as a contributor or administrator, or volunteer,” he proclaims.

THE LEGACY

In work, philanthropy, spirituality, and life, Jain’s ‘hamsafar’ (soulmate) has been his wife, Devyani, whom he married in 1978. “Devyani gave me the wings to fly, while she kept the ground beneath steady. Both our children have been raised and nurtured by her with values.”

Their eldest daughter, Jessica, is a financial adviser in the US, where she lives with her husband, Munish, a physician, and their two children, Ahren and Kiara. Their younger daughter, Jacqueline, after completing her degree in the US, returned to Dubai and now works there.

Though deeply content, Jain sometimes wonders if he has been given more than he has deserved, humbly attributing his success to “my parents’ blessings and the goodwill of everyone around me.”

Jain’s infectious energy is a natural magnet and his music acts as a social glue bringing people together. His home, equipped with a professional playback singing setup, is an informal stage, where people sing in joy and harmony. A gifted singer himself, Jain believes that music is a great equaliser – a universal language of unadulterated happiness. Much like him, really.

Narendra lives his life in song, dances to his own beat, and continues to compose a legacy that is harmonised in love, kindness, and the joy of ‘simply being’.

MAPPING THE INDIA WITHIN

Bharat: Then and Now

“Bharat has always been more than a place—it is a feeling that travels with us. The Bharat my father knew, and the Bharat I see today both carry the same heartbeat of resilience and community, even as the nation steps into a new era of confidence.”

Bharatiya Values that Travelled

“What I inherited from my father was not just a surname, but the quiet strength of Bharatiya values—integrity, honesty, sincerity, humility, and service. These values still anchor our lives abroad.”

Generations Abroad: A New Bharatiya Identity

“We are the bridge generation—rooted in our parents’ Bharat yet growing in new lands. The spirit of home and the openness of the world enriches our identity. I can proudly say that my children and grandchildren keep that spirit alive.”

Pride, Progress, and the Spirit Of Bharat

“Every success we celebrate abroad is also Bharat’s story. The progress of our people, whether in Dubai, London, or New York, reflects the spirit of Bharat—undaunted, enterprising, and full of pride.”

Dreams for the Youth and Future of Bharat

“I dream of Bharat as the Vishwaguru (world leader), not just in economy and innovation but also in spirituality, leading through its timeless values.

“I hope the youth never forget that genuine progress is measured not just in wealth, but also in compassion. They must remember that there are no shortcuts to success. Shortcuts might get you quick results, but you never earn that sense of satisfaction that comes with hard work.”

BACK TO THE FUTURE – IN FIVE MOMENTS

Food Cravings

THEN

Gujarati dishes, especially Gujarati ‘Gathiya’, are food for the soul.

NOW

I start my day with ‘Gathiya’, anywhere I go. The cooks at home have been taught to make all my favourite dishes.

Sport Spirit

THEN

I was a very enthusiastic sports person, participating in multiple state-level tournaments.

NOW

Over the years, I have played cricket, tennis, but nothing motivates me like tennis and I have been playing it for the last 35 years for the control it offers.

Music Tastes

THEN

I love singing and grew up on songs of legends like Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh.

NOW

My repertoire has extended to ghazals as well. Singing is my meditation.

Holiday Life

THEN

I remember travelling to hill stations. The most fun I have had with friends is exploring nature’s beauty.

NOW

Travel brings so much joy. We have explored all corners of the world — New Zealand to Alaska, and Europe to Africa.

Leisure Habits

THEN

Sports have always been my way to unwind and re-centre myself.

NOW

Tennis, tennis, and more tennis. I not only play the game, but I am there to watch every tournament possible.
