Riding the sands — From Rajasthan to Dubai

The ‘Suresh’ Factor: “The more you give, the more life gives back to you. That’s a truth I’ve lived, not just learned.”

THE MAN

Suresh Gandhi is the founder of Max Technical Electrical Trading LLC and All Bright Electricals LLC, but Suresh is more than just these titles.

Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Suresh grew up in a principled household where humility, integrity, and truth were a way of life. “My father taught me to walk straight, and my mother taught me to walk kindly,” says Suresh Gandhi and adds. “Between the two, I found balance.” The equilibrium of principle and compassion became the foundation of Suresh’s life.

Like all children, Suresh bent the truth and once lied about an exam result. The consequence though not severe, but the emotional impact was deep. He says, “I learned one lie, even if it is small, can stay with you for a lifetime. It’s not the punishment, but it’s the burden of knowing you weren’t honest.”

As the family moved from Khetarpali to Chabutara in Jodhpur, young Suresh continued his value-based education under the watchful guidance of his parents. Their soft-spoken guidance cultivated in him empathy and patience—qualities that would later define both his leadership style and his lifelong commitment to service. “Life was simple. But in that simplicity was clarity—about who we were, and how we must live.”

THE JOURNEY

Educated in Jodhpur and Mumbai, Suresh not only honed his intellectual curiosity but also his ability to tackle real-world challenges. Being a cadet in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) prepared him for all eventualities. It was one stormy night, but it left a lifelong lesson. “You don’t run when it gets uncomfortable, you hold your ground.”

Well-prepared to handle the tests that lay ahead, Suresh moved to Dubai, UAE in 1976. Here he shared rooms, did odd jobs, and patiently persisted. He established Al Sameir Electricals in 1985, followed by Max Technical Electrical Trading LLC and All Bright Electricals LLC. “It’s not what we build that defines us—it’s how we build when everything crumbles,” says Suresh.

It is this show of determination and leadership that have earned him high praise and respect from his peers, especially among the Indian business diaspora in the GCC. With over 35 years of experience and global business footprint, Suresh is known for his foresight and deep-rooted integrity.

THE SPIRIT WITHIN

As an entrepreneur, Suresh has been an active member of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), championing sustainability and digital transformation. He has also been a key catalyst in fostering collaboration between Indian and UAE business communities.

His business gave him a livelihood, and his selfless service gave him his moral fortitude. As a leader, he gives back by mentoring and as a philanthropist, Suresh pays forward with commitment to community service. “Service,” he says, “is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on this Earth.”

To honour his parents, he founded the Dr Padam Chand Bilam Kanwar Gandhi Trust in Jodhpur and contributed ₹8 million to build a school. He organised a blood donation camp in Mumbai that collected 800 units in one day. He has also contributed to relief after the Bhuj earthquake, Rajasthan droughts, and the 2004 tsunami.

THE LEGACY

Suresh has been honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by IBPC Dubai. His humanitarian efforts earned him the prestigious Bhamashah Award in 2003 from the Government of Rajasthan. But accolades have never been his motivation. “True giving is silent,” he reflects. “It does not ask for applause; it only asks for impact.”

The impact that Suresh has made is very visible. He is a visionary entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and also a respected community leader. As an active member in the Non-Resident Rajasthani (NRR) community, Suresh sees cultural roots as inseparable from service. What makes Suresh Gandhi’s legacy enduring is that everything he has ever done and continues to do is firmly rooted in his values and his loyalty to his work and his family. His wife, Rekha, is his strength and grace. Together they have given their son Alok the values that keep him grounded but enable him to carve his own niche. Alok and his wife, Divya, carry forward the Gandhi family values through their own children, Arnav and Arjun.

Suresh Gandhi’s identity is inseparable from principles and Indian roots. It is hard to separate the two. As he often says, “Success without values is like a lamp without oil — it may shine briefly, but never last.”

MAPPING THE INDIA WITHIN

Bharat: Then and Now

“As a child, I knew something of Indian culture, religion, and society. But I also saw a world deprived of sophistication, modernisation, or technology. But today, I see India as a strong technological hub, excelling in medicine, space, science – you name it. We also now live in an age of abundance. My belief and faith in the people of India has increased manifold. Having travelled extensively, I find others still have much to learn from us.”

Bharatiya Values that Travelled

“My core values of humility, honesty, and integrity have always guided my moral compass. I have never faced situations where a compromise was needed on my part. But yes, I have adapted to the surroundings. I believe it is important to accept diversity – that’s Indian. I still value money and believe in frugality. I make minor adjustments to accommodate others—not out of sacrifice, but a sense of cooperation and teamwork.”

Generations Abroad: A New Bharatiya Identity

“My son and grandsons have never truly lived or felt India. But they are building a new culture – one that takes from their Indian roots and merges it with their surroundings. My grandson is a drummer and a footballer—he’s doing well academically, but his interests differ from mine. I would say their values are being shaped by diverse perspectives rather than a singular cultural foundation like mine.”

Pride, Progress, and the Spirit Of Bharat

“Sincerity, curiosity, hard work, and an open mind have helped me succeed. These are the founding bricks of who I am. I still carry Indian traits—adaptability, thrift, cooperation. And I’ve seen that these qualities are not just relevant, but they are also respected. I keep my Bharatiya spirit alive because I believe life is vast. I’ve lived for eight decades and still feel there’s more to be done. We must live, learn, unlearn—that too is part of one’s journey.”

Dreams for the Youth and Future of Bharat

“I dream of a modern, technologically advanced India, but more importantly, I want progress to have a trickle-down effect. I want it to reach every Indian. Development has to be inclusive, otherwise growth is stunted. As much as I root for progress, I would also urge the Indian youth to connect with their roots. Go deeper into our cultural ethos, not just the outer rituals, but the spirit and philosophy behind them. Familiarise yourselves with our roots—our true ‘Bharatiya’.”
