India ranks 3rd in diplomatic influence in the Asia Power Index and is ahead of Japan. This is largely due to strategic partnerships that span the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America. India today operates over 218 resident missions—one of the largest diplomatic networks in the world.

 The Diaspora Network

If the world is a global village, we can safely assume that it is more ‘Indian’ than before. Our diaspora is 18-million strong – living across the world – and contributing a jaw-dropping US $111 billion in annual remittances—the highest globally. Among these global citizens are CEOs, professors, surgeons, mayors, lawmakers, unicorn founders, and cultural ambassadors. 

The Soft Power Metrics

The diaspora is India’s overseas contingent reflecting India’s soft power and unique Indian identity in a highly Western-centric world. In the Brand Finance Global Soft Power Index 2025, India jumped to Rank 30 but ranked 6th worldwide in arts & entertainment and 8th in space technology. Bollywood, yoga, Ayurveda, Indian cuisine, fashion and music now influence every major world capital.

The Indian Century

Speaking at the G20 recently, Indian Prime Minister Hon’ble Narendra Modi said it best. “This is not the decade of India. This is the century of India.”

And leading this Indian century is its young demographic. With a median age of 28, India has one of the world’s youngest workforces. By 2030, India is expected to add one-fifth of the world’s working-age population — a great prospect for global investment seeking stable, skilled labour.

 The Shaping Influence

Gone are the days when India had to often balance its expectations to meet global demands.

India now stands tall among those who shape expectations. Leading the Global South in everything from conversations on climate justice, digital equity, and multilateral reform, India is a voice that refuses to be unheard.

The Legacy of Wisdom

India is unique in itself not just as a geographic land formation but also as a civilisational legacy. It gave the world zero, the decimal system, and groundbreaking advances in mathematics and astronomy. From yoga and Ayurveda to timeless philosophy, literature, art, and music, India has continued to shape the cultural fabric of the world. 

But what sets India apart is its ethos – from the Harappan civilization to the modern one – is its wisdom that is rooted in diversity, tolerance, and kindness. In a fraught global order, India remains the steady lighthouse of spiritual guidance. India is the world’s moral compass.

What gives India this ability? It has nothing to do with numbers or statistics or its position on various lists. It has to do with the collective confidence of knowing its true strength. It is the belief that Indian values of democracy, diversity, entrepreneurship, family, community can not only sustain Indians no matter where they live but also become a blueprint for others to follow.

 A rising India is a source of pride; it is a clarion call of an ancient nation’s global credibility. From the sands of the Sahara to the peaks of the Himalayas; from the Amazon rainforests to the skyscrapers of Japan, India’s spirit thrives in the possibility of a shared rise.

 India has not just arrived on the global stage. It is the lead performer. It’s our time to shine. Cue the applause and encores. India is here to inspire, innovate, and lead.
