The Leading Lady was conceived as a gift for Kamlaben Shantilal Kansagra, lovingly known as, Ba on her 100th birthday.
It was an attempt to capture a century of living within the pages of a book. A hundred years of laughter and loss of journeys undertaken and homes built, of traditions cherished and values passed from one generation to the next.
And at the heart of the story is a woman, who became the quiet centre of an ever-expanding Kansagra family and legacy. Beside her husband, through changing times and across continents, Baa nurtured a family of eight children, more than twenty grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Five generations, countless memories, and one extraordinary thread connecting them all.
Brought to life through a collaboration between Maneesh Media and the Kansagra family during the difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the book gathers treasured photographs, intimate recollections and stories that might otherwise have faded with time. Each page adds another piece to the portrait of a woman whose greatest legacy lies not simply in the years she lived, but in the lives she touched.
